- 2007 was the 25th anniversary of the foundation of The Armchair Club, a group of six local businessmen who got together in 1981, originally to help Mansfield Town FC. In 2005 we increased our number to nine. Over the years the Armchair Club’s fund raising efforts have broadened to help sportsmen and women across Mansfield and North Nottinghamshire. Over £130,000 pounds has been raised and distributed.

- The Armchair Club has no Chairman, Secretary or Treasurer and has no formal structure; all of us just do whatever is necessary. We meet every couple of months to organise our events and consider requests for support from local individuals and organisations. We work hard at supporting those who help themselves usually with a bias towards young people who are making their way in an increasingly competitive sporting world.

- Since its formation local business people have been generous in their support of our Question of Sport and Sportsman’s Dinners held on the first Mondays in March and October respectively. In 2006 we made a commitment to raise £20,000 to support local Olympic hopefuls in their quest to be part of the Beijing games in 2008 and more particularly the London games in 2012. June 2006 saw the inaugural Olympic Summer Ball began our fund raising efforts in fabulous style.
