MEDIA RELEASE
Collins Casuals emerged as the champions when the Armchair Club staged its revamped A Question of Sport evening at Mansfield Town Football Club’s 1861 Suite.
The event brought together local sports enthusiasts for an evening of friendly but keen competition, entertainment and fundraising, with proceeds helping the Armchair Club continue its long-standing support for local sportspeople, talented athletes and grassroots sports clubs.
A major innovation for this year’s event was the introduction of a new digital table scoring system – and it proved a huge success.
Instead of traditional answer sheets being collected and manually marked, teams submitted their answers electronically. Scores were updated constantly throughout the evening, with every table able to see how they had performed and how they stood against their rivals.
The result was a much faster and more interactive competition, with the changing leaderboard adding to the atmosphere as the evening progressed.
Taking charge of proceedings was experienced Sky sports broadcaster and journalist Nick Johnson, who kept the competition flowing smoothly and maintained the pace and good humour throughout the evening.
There was also a special appearance from Nottingham Forest legend John McGovern, captain of the Forest side which famously won back-to-back European Cups under Brian Clough.
John entertained guests with stories and memories from his distinguished playing career, including his experiences playing under the legendary Clough, providing another highlight of the evening.
The sporting entertainment was complemented by an excellent pie and pea supper prepared and served by the Mansfield Town Football Club catering team, who looked after guests superbly in the 1861 Suite.
After the final questions had been answered and the electronic scoreboard had done its work, it was Collins Casuals who finished on top to become the 2026 A Question of Sport champions.
An Armchair Club spokesperson said:
We wanted to give our Question of Sport a fresh feel this year and the new digital scoring system transformed the competition. Everyone could see immediately how they had performed and watch the positions change as the evening developed.
Nick Johnson did a terrific job keeping everything moving, while John McGovern was a wonderful guest and had everyone listening to his stories about his career and, of course, Brian Clough.
Congratulations to Collins Casuals on taking the trophy and a big thank you to everyone who joined us, the excellent catering team at Mansfield Town Football Club and everyone who helped make the evening possible.
Most importantly, events like this enable the Armchair Club to continue raising money to support local sporting talent and local sports organisations.
The Armchair Club has a long history of supporting local sport, providing financial assistance towards areas such as equipment, coaching, travel, competition costs and development opportunities.
